Publisher's Synopsis
Slavery is wrong. In an ideal world a person should be able to say slavery is wrong and walk away without debate, but our world is not ideal. For centuries, people of great prominence and esteem accomplished great things in the name of freedom and progress while still embracing the concept of indentured servitude, caste systems and slavery. How is this possible? Not only is slavery wrong, it always was, and always will be. In any form, for any reason, for any goal, the idea of one group of people oppressing another for either free or forced labor is reprehensible. If a person uses an Internet search browser to look up the phrase, "the history of slavery," it brings over 161 million hits. If one searches the phrase "the history of slavery in the United States," it brings over 139 million hits. Why is slavery such a hot topic on the Internet? Why does so many people have something to say about it? The answer is both complicated and simple, but the bottom line is that slavery still hurts. Who does it hurt? Why does the subject of slavery hurt so many people? Slavery is not a comfortable conversation piece in most circles because the question and circumstances of slavery remains unresolved in the United States of America.
