Iris falls in love with a young man named Osaka, who is actually a wealthy nobleman in disguise. However, their love is thwarted by Osaka's father, who disapproves of their relationship, and Iris is ultimately betrayed by those she trusted most. The opera explores themes of love, betrayal, and the plight of women in Japanese society at the time. The music for the opera was composed by Pietro Mascagni and premiered in Rome in 1898.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
