Publisher's Synopsis
Bridge over troubled water? In the summer of 2000, the bridge - linking Southern Sweden and Denmark across the Strait of Oresund - was opened after nearly a century of heated discussions and continuously changing plans.;In this book, the excitement surrounding the planning and construction of the bridge is analyzed, and the dreaming and scheming involved in the attempts to create a new transnational region across the water are examined.;The authors, an interdisciplinary team of Danish and Swedish scholars from the areas of ethnology and strategic management studies, use the Oresund regionalization processes as a case to discuss how transnational cultural, political and economic integration takes place in a world where the global and local as well as pasts and futures meet in novel ways.
