Publisher's Synopsis

This text and CD-ROM should motivate students toward learning the fundamental foundations of circuit theory necessary for the complete study of electrical engineering by applying the material given to the real world. A critical emphasis on design is stressed throughout and further enhanced with a design challenge problem. At the start of each chapter, the student is asked to consider a Design Challenge problem that can only be solved by applying the material presented in the chapter. The solution to each challenge concludes each chapter. Several examples of how MATLAB is used to solve problems involving electric circuits are illustrated in the text and a new appendix is included that describes how the PSpice circuit analysis tool can be used; These changes are also incorporated into the fourth edition: the text provides a streamlined treatment of first order circuits; Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits are used to reduce all first order circuits to one of two simple circuits - a series RC circuit or a parallel RL circuit making differential equations practically unnecessary; chapters on electric power have been revised to provide fuller explanations and more examples; the treatment of three phase circuits has been extended to include unbalanced as well as balanced circuits; all Design Challenge circuits are simulated on the CD with the book. Electronic Course Management materials are available to adopters.
