This book introduces pupils in the first three years of secondary school to the major aspects of the physical environment and develops their skills of map interpretation. It is a foundation text for GCSE and includes a variety of activities for pupils, that are designed to employ the full range of geographical methods of analysis and interpretation.;Part one describes what makes a good map, and guides the reader through techniques such as section drawing and finding distance and bearing. Two Ordnance Survey map extracts are included.;Part 2 covers the main elements of the physical environment. Where appropriate, activities are based on the map extracts. Each chapter also puts in perspective the way that human activity is inextricably linked with the physical world.
