Melanie arrives at the Pearly Gates and finds them closed to her. What's a girl to do?
After an "accident" Melanie finds herself confronted by a grumpy, old man who tells her she can't come into Heaven today. How was she supposed to know she needed a number to get through the gates?
When told to wait by the wishing well for a spot to open up, she finds she can still reach the living through her "touch." To pass the time, she looks after the people of her little town and protects them from those that want to harm them.
But, who would want to hurt the people she loves?
It turns out she isn't the only spirit walking around her town. There is one particularly dark spirit that takes delight in causing people to stumble and has taken a clear interest in her. He has made it his mission to break her and capture her soul for his master. Melanie has decided she doesn't like him very much.
What Melanie doesn't know is there is a war coming between Heaven and Hell and she is caught squarely in the middle. Finding out she is one of the more important souls in this conflict, it becomes apparent Hell would like nothing more than to take her captive before the war even starts.
Angels and archangels are sworn to watch over her and protect her, but Lucifer's own minions are just as diligent in stalking her.
