English summary: This volume publishes papers presented at a symposium held on December 1st 2012 commemorating the 100th birthday of Gerhard Kegel and the 80th birthday of Alexander Luderitz. The authors consider to what extent the legal instruments available under private international law during the 20th century, in part shaped by these two Cologne based scholars, can help to explain problems and phenomena occurring in the 21st century. They ask if the two scholars' thinking with regard to conflict of laws is still relevant today. In addition to three major contributions the proceedings contain a biographical introduction and a detailed report on the debate, as well as a bibliography of the writings of Gerhard Kegel and Alexander Luderitz.
