Publisher's Synopsis

In producing this innovative CD-ROM-based atlas, the authors aim to complement existing textbooks by simulating a real case-based echo examination situation via a user-friendly interface.

With its principle focus on transthoracic echocardiography, the CD features over 1,000 image loops and 150+ still images (Doppler, MMode). 80 case studies cover a wide range of pathologies, organized into the nine categories listed below (see Contents). Utilising the latest scanner and digital imaging postprocessing techniques, the programme covers a broad spectrum of pathologies, both simple and complex, common and rare, alongside normal anatomical features.

A special presentation mode, ideal for seminars or lectures, allows storage and retrieval of selected case sets. A self-assessment function allows the studies to be reviewed in random order to help sharpen diagnostic skills. Extensive graphics include standard and segmented views of cardiac anatomy and detailed description of the heart valves, chambers and other cardiac structures as they are seen on the echocardiogram.
