Publisher's Synopsis
This is a rating scale designed mainly for completion by the reception teacher in the first half-term of school entry. It provides a standardized screening procedure to identify and monitor those children at risk of having, or developing, special educational needs, as well as a "numerical" baseline which can be used for all children in evaluating their subsequent progress. The Code of Practice requires schools to assess children with special educational needs at Stage 1. This index leads in to the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum, and is standardized on a multi-ethnic population in a wide range of urban schools. Norms are provided for ages 4:6 to 5:0, with guidance for interpreting the scores of older and younger children. This specimen set contains one copy of the checklist/profile and the teacher's handbook.
