Publisher's Synopsis

My parents have a slightly brown complexion and are called mulattos. They live together in a comfortable home. And, even though we are all slaves, I was so deceived that I never dreamed of being a commodity, trusting them in order to keep them safe, and possibly asking them to do so at any time. I have an older brother, William, who is two years younger than me. He is a smart and caring child. My grandmother is an amazing woman in many ways, and she also has great wealth. She is the daughter of a plantation owner in South Carolina. After his death, her mother and three children were able to pay freely and went to St. Augustine, where there are relatives. It was during the Revolutionary War; then they were captured as they passed, shipped back, and sold to different buyers. This is the story my grandmother once told me. But I don't remember all the details.
