Publisher's Synopsis

Beatrice Barrington, a court stenographer, is working at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin on the trial of Stephen O'Farrell, who is accused of fraud. At lunch in Phoenix Park, Beatrice spots O'Farrell giving a woman an envelope. She subsequently sees the woman on a tram talking to the forewoman of the jury, Rachel Deere. Beatrice believes that O'Farrell is behaving in a way which indicates he is perverting the course of justice. But, before she can alert the authorities, Rachel Deere is killed.
