Publisher's Synopsis
The Beast set the universe on fire, and then I killed it before the fires started. However, in the storm of paradoxes, the universe remained burned. People, planets, and species ruined and twisted into mockeries of what they should be...if they survived.
In this new universe, I am Mr. Smith. Or who Mr. Smith should have been. Traveling from one place and crisis to another attempting to alleviate the worst travesties in the universe. Now I'm heading to a familiar place: the beautiful planet of Alnox. I know because Mr. Smith took me there so many years ago, but not to the same Alnox. This new planet has been mined and cleared until the people barely get by under an oppressive government.
Haunted by ghosts from a different timeline, I know what I have to do. This governmentmust fall. I will set the people free. But fear is another oppressor, and I don't know how to handle it. Not in them or in myself. But I have to do this, I owe this to those I killed. When even the embers in the ashes are cold, what else can I do but cut off the burned and salvage the rest?
