Facing a future of cooking, cleaning and unsatisfying sex with a husband who'd rather be slumped in front of the TV leaves Trudy Bell deeply depressed. When she lands a secretarial position at a travel agency where the only other African American employee is an extravagant snob who Trudy's white colleagues confuse with her, she finds a new way to inject a little excitement - she steals the other woman's life.
