Publisher's Synopsis
A practical guide to a variety of walks in the Galloway region of South West Scotland, with accompanying poems, and illustrations. First published in 2010 it was nominated as a Hay Festival Outdoor book of the year, and featured in that year's Wigtown Book Festival. There are some short lyric poems, but in the main they are rangey free verse accounts of the experience of doing the walks themselves, in various conditions, over a period of years. One recurring unstated metaphor is of an iced up landscape, a projection of the failing marriage the author was going through at the time. But the overall mood is positive, practical, not taking itself too seriously. Accepting what is there, celebrating family life and children, and digging in.
