Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from Improvement Era, Vol. 1: February, 1898

Well, what about the thief on the cross? He wasn't baptized, and he went to heaven. How often have our breth ren been confronted with this assertion when emphasizing the doctrine that without baptism no man Or woman can be saved in the kingdom of God. The elder thus assailed gener ally answers the objection by proving from the words of the risen Redeemer to Mary that he did not go to heaven, therefore the thief did not. But suppose the objector could prove that the penitent thief did go to heaven; what proofs has he that the thief had not been baptized? Most certainly the scripture does not say so.
