Publisher's Synopsis
Much of the popularity gained by the hollow cathode discharge over the last two decades is due to its utilization in atomic absorption spectrometry, where development has been greatly enhanced by the availablility of this source of sharp and stable spectral lines. The remarkable properties of the hollow cathode discharge for direct application in emission spectroscopy has yet to be further exploited.;This book has a two-fold importance to the subject. It provides a comprehensive account of the progress made to date in the development of new versions of the hollow cathode lamp to promote enhancement of radiation output; and at the same time will, in outlining future trends, stimulate further development and research.
