Publisher's Synopsis
With the growing danger of bacterial resistance to various antibiotic agents, the therapeutic potential of immunomodulation becomes increasingly important. Featuring a selection of papers presented at the 1st International Meeting of the Foundation for the Study of Infections of the Upper Respiratory Tract (FIURT), this publication discusses the complex immunological mechanisms of anti-infectious defence, as well as the actual possibilities of immunomodulation and its efficacy in terms of both humoral and cellular parameters. The focus of this special issue is OM-85 BV, a bacterial extract whose clinical effects in preventing and combating respiratory tract infections are extensively described.
