Publisher's Synopsis
The Earth 2075 series presents life and its challenges as they will likely be in that period. All books are novellas and a third to half the length of a typical novel. They're intended for busy folks who will enjoy the action of a full novel compressed and easily finished in a few hours. The books carry common themes but are independent with different characters and can be read in any order. There is no time travel or laser pistols, just real-life situations and genuine people living with advanced technology.Book 2 of the Earth 2075 series addresses the discovery of immortality. The human body has about 37 trillion cells and is constantly replacing most of these as they die. The body uses the huge DNA molecule as a blueprint for reproduction. As the cells reproduce, small errors in copying the DNA can happen. Once an error occurs, its reproduced in the next generation of cells. Through this compounding of errors, our cells gradually degrade in performance. First with inefficiencies, then to the point where they don't function at all. This is the aging process. Cyber Genetics has developed a system where the cells are scanned and the defective ones destroyed. Healthy cells naturally reproduce to replace them. This yields immortality. A class of cells with defects are called cancer. These are also destroyed, thereby curing cancer. Once these defective cells are gone, the body reverts to its natural state; a body in its prime. People live immortally, cancer free, and in 20 something bodies. The advent of immortality widens the gap in classes as the ultra-rich keep the discovery to themselves. The story follows the progress of genetic manipulation from destroying defective cells, to minor adjustments in DNA for cosmetic purposes, to wholesale changes that yield a complete transformation in appearance. George Blake is a former SEAL torn between providing for his family and the demands from his job. George finds himself in very difficult situations and has to make tough choices. Does he make the right ones? Will the ultra-rich succeed in once again dominating everyone, or can George foil them?
