This guide was written to help students and their caregivers navigate the public school system. Realistically, all high school graduates do not want to go to a four-year college. Therefore, I discuss various ambitious post-secondary options. I've been a K-12 substitute teacher, an admissions rep and assistant director of admissions at a trade school, a high school advisor, an adjunct faculty member at two community colleges and I've done various education centered community events. My experience has allowed me to work with learners from ages 5- 65 who come from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. In addition, I have been fortunate enough to visit various high schools, universities and training facilities throughout the United States, Trinidad and Barbados. As Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." It is my goal that the information shared with you in this guide will help you and your child change your world. I encourage you to take notes as you read through this guide. The notes will help you remember important information.
