Publisher's Synopsis

Il Giuramento, also known as The Oath, is an Italian opera composed by Giuseppe Saverio Raffaele Mercadante in 1848. The story takes place in a medieval setting and revolves around the love triangle between the Count of Syracuse, his wife Isaura, and her former lover, the Duke of Calabria. The Count is suspicious of Isaura's loyalty and demands that she swear an oath of fidelity. However, the Duke of Calabria is determined to win Isaura back and uses deceitful tactics to try and ruin the Count's reputation. The drama unfolds as the characters navigate their conflicting desires and honor their sworn oaths. The music features soaring arias, duets, and ensembles that capture the emotional intensity of the story. Il Giuramento is considered one of Mercadante's most successful operas and remains a popular work in the Italian operatic repertoire. This Book Is In English. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
