Publisher's Synopsis
This book focuses on problems related to the logic of identity, an issue which has, for some time, been at the forefront of discussions on the impact of postmodernism on educational reflection. The deconstruction of the logic of identity in various strands of post-structuralism, postmodernism, and feminism has seriously challenged the possibility of talking in monolithic and definite terms about, for example, an autonomous rational subject within epistemology or democracy. Concepts such as these are in many respects central to educational theory, and any discussion that transforms them from ontological into contingent issues can be expected to lead to new and fruitful re-examinations of educational theories. This book can be seen as a contribution to this process. The book will be of interest to anyone concerned with current debates in educational and social theory, cultural studies, and philosophy.
