Publisher's Synopsis
This CD-ROM uses the identification of an unknown culture as an exercise to teach students about the types of characteristics that are used to distinguish bacterial species and how classification schemes for bacteria are organized. Providing students wth the means to identify a variety of unknown cultures, the interactive exercises allow them to learn the deductive reasoning skills involved in bacterial identification, or to understand how phenotypic information is organized. The accompanying instruction booklet contains instructions on how to run the programme but also assists the student in planning out the experiment as well as providing a list of unknown micro-organisms, a list of tests available and a summary of genus trails.
