Publisher's Synopsis

Since the early 1980s, the Department of Health of the World Health Organization developed the ICD-10 classification system, starting with the Clinical Descriptions and Diagnostic Guidelines and continuing with the Diagnostic Criteria for Research (DCR). These and other documents have since been translated into German. This publication presents a study of 34 clinical departments comprising adult psychiatry, child and juvenile psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine in German-speaking countries. Coordinated by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health in Lübeck, the text of the DCR was used to diagnose 39 video-documented cases of sections F0-F9 connected to written case histories. Contributors to this publication examine the results obtained using this criteria in the diagnosis of several mental and behavioral disorders such as schizophrenia, mood, neurotic and psychosomatic conditions. The conclusions reached will provide readers with a fascinating insight into the application and future directions of ICD-10.
