Publisher's Synopsis
What I would say if he had to knock on my door one more time and wrap his arms around me. When I heard he was leaving for Spain. He didn't just leave me, he went around the world to get away from me. I didn't mean to be so angry.Of all the things I imagined for a year and a half, none had been so angry and... beat him. I couldn't imagine ever being that angry at him, and then I saw him. I was angry at him. I was angry at myself.I turned it on, but as soon as he logged on to the instant messenger, I closed the window. When I finally got out, I almost ran into Jimmie as he was coming up the stairs. I was hiding in my room and I was furious. Now Jimmie was back, and I think the shock of seeing him again had shaken me incredibly. It was as if the year and a half of healing that I had worked so hard for was irrelevant. Acknowledging those mistakes was part of the healing, as was passing them by and not letting them dictate my whole life. I heard a lawnmower come to life and I bent over to look out my window. Jimmie started working back and forth across the yard.I got up from my bed and pulled out my violin. I spent the rest of the afternoon reading without really concentrating on the plot and looked out the window regularly while Jimmie worked back and forth across the yard doing various things. In the early evening I went downstairs and Mum started cooking dinner. I watched her walk across the yard and stand next to Jimmie. They stood with their backs to me, but eventually they both came out onto the patio. Mum came in and fixed a plate, then took it outside and gave it to Jimmie. After I packed, I sent Mandy a text message to tell her I'd pick her up in 20 minutes. I went downstairs to say goodbye to Mum before going out and getting in my car.It was the first time I'd seen her since I got back from College Park, so we had a lot to catch up on. When I got back to Salisbury and dropped Mandy off at her parents' house, it was usually dark. Finally I was too tired to spend the day in the sun and said good night. As I sat on my bed I could see that Jimmie had been working on building a path from the garage to the courtyard.Jimmie was completely absorbed in his work. Even from several meters away I could hear him breathing heavily. "Jimmie." He looked just like he did two years ago when we spent so much time together and worked together in the yard, only he looked more tired and weary. That night, Mom was sitting in the yard with Jimmie while they had dinner. I told him that my brother had returned from Spain, but when Josh asked questions about it, I evaded them and said that Jimmie and I really didn't have much time to talk. I spent the next two days going out with Mandy, either at her house or window shopping in the Salisbury area. I didn't want to stay locked up in my room, but I wasn't ready to run into Jimmie again.
