This volume brings together clinical and basic research on primary and secondary hyperalgesia and allodynia, conducted by some of the world's leading neurologists, neurobiologists, neurophysiologists, and pain specialists. Their contributions focus on five key topics; nociceptors and their sensitization; the role of nociceptors in primary hyperalgesia; the role of central changes in secondary hyperalgesia; the mechanisms of central changes produced by peripheral nerve damage; and the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of hyperalgesia.
