Publisher's Synopsis

In this work, we studied the learning of democracy in the context of the Class Council, according to the guidelines of Institutional Pedagogy (IP), in order to demonstrate the viability of Human Rights Education (HRE) through the pedagogical practices of this model. We hypothesized that it is possible to learn democracy in the Class Council, as long as we take into account the practices and training of HRD, as well as the fundamental principles and provisions of IP. In order to evaluate this hypothesis, we considered that Human Rights (HR) and democracy go hand in hand and we looked at Human Rights Education (HRE), based on its definition, its foundations, its historical construction and its challenges. The methodology used consisted of a case study to investigate the learning of democracy in school practices involving the class council according to PI: the first, recorded in a documentary from a private school in France; the second, recorded in a video from a public school in Paraíba, Brazil. The result was that it is possible to learn democracy and build it in school spaces.
