To-day, his writings in the field of Inter national Law are once more in the glare of public scrutiny. I say once more, for, during the three hundred years that have run their course since Grotius lived and wrote, his work as a jurist has from time to time been subjected to the severest of tests, occasioned by armed con?icts between nations. Yet the principles which this man laid down to govern the conduct of nations with one another have remained intact to a remarkable degree up to the present day. They have stood the test of time.
