When Jason Street is falsely implicated in the suicide of a tyre-maker and former dirt-track champion Sherm Case, he sees his career disappearing like a puff of tyre smoke. Out of work, and with his sweetheart Sara plagued by grim nightmares that threaten to tear them apart, Street's life is seemingly crossed up and heading for the haybales when hope arrives in the shapely form of Case's daughter, who hires Street to prove that her father's death was not a suicide, but a murder.
