Publisher's Synopsis
George Washington Caucamán, an indigenous detective with an itchy trigger finger, is sent to do rural work in Patagonia because, as his boss says, an indigenous Chilean isn't worth anything. But when Caucamán surprises a band of thieves he shoots the leader (who is the son of a general) and is banished to the capital to work in a sexual crimes division. There he focuses on the case of a series of threatening calls to a woman who works at a hot line—calls that Caucamán discovers are related to tortures during the Pinochet regime.
