Publisher's Synopsis
Virginia Clements leaves her actor husband Carl after discovering he has been unfaithful to her. She disguises her identity but her love of the stage draws her to a troupe of actors at the seaside town of Westhampton whom she gradually discovers have nore on their minds than acting. An intercepted phone call, the mysterious whistling of ROSES IN PICARDY and the strange disappearance of a Frenchman draw Virginia into a vortex of intrigue and suspicion that completely disrupt the peace she had so desperately hoped to find.
