On September 9, 2015, the Butte Fire broke out on a wooded hillside near the Jackson Butte, California. That evening it seemed to be under control. But the next day, with changing winds, temperatures upwards of 105 degrees, and after this 5 year drought, the fire whipped out of control. Then with no warning, the local police came with sirens blaring telling them they had to get out now! Facing a wall of fire, they drove out and escaped with only a few of the ranch animals and their lives. They had to leave most of them behind in the flames.Within a few hours that evening, the fire consumed 71,000 acres, over 500 homes, and several of their neighbors. suddenly more than 1000 people were homeless in this once beautiful rural area of Calaveras County. Living in exile with only a few of her pets, not knowing the fate of her ranch and the other animals trapped there alone in the middle of this huge fire for 8 days is a grueling story. A story every one living in the wilderness should read.
