Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Holmes Hinkley, an Industrial Pioneer, 1793-1866
Fortunately, the year before he died, Holmes Hinkley wrote for his children a brief autobio graphy, which is made the basis of this little book; but the sketch is so slight and unassum ing that it has seemed wise to include foot notes, letters from those who knew either him or his work, various data of interest, and a few introductory words as a sort of background of the period in which he lived. It is hoped that the little volume will prove attractive to all who are interested in the history of our indus trial pioneers and useful to all who are inter ested in the earliest construction of locomo tives in New England.
