Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from History of the Filipino Revolt: Speech of Hon. Richard F. Pettigrew, of South Dakota, in the Senate of the United States, Wednesday, January 31, 1900

Mr. Pettigrew. Mr. President, in the face of these facts, in the face of the evidence in Document N o 62, sent by the Presi dent of the United States, that our generals at Paris told our com missioners that we were under great obligations to those people, to Aguinaldo. And his army, for the capture of several thousand _spanish prisoners, foi driving into the city of Manila and surround ing them with earthworks what was left of the Spanish forces in that country, it seems to me that it is pertinent and proper that the statement of Aguinaldo with regard to the facts connected with this transaction should be laid bef01e the American people. If they can not be laid before the American people otherwise, if this resolution is not to be adopted if you will not permit the statement to be printed as a document, then we will read it and put it in the record.
