Publisher's Synopsis

The author of this book served in the American Civil War. He was an officer under General George B. McClellan. He made it to America where he and his brother served as officers in the Union Army in some of the most horrific battles in the American Civil War, including the Peninsula Campaign in South Eastern Virginia where they were lucky to survive. Volume Three is concerned with the Confederate victory in the Battle of Chancellersville, following which Lee decided to invade the North especially Pennsylvania. Chapter II of Volume Three is concerned with the Battle of Gettysberg and is perhaps the most authoratative account of that battle. Following his lack of success at Gettysburg, Lee retreated back into Virginia.
