Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from History of the Church in the Diocese of Tennessee
Under these circumstances, the author has sought the greater part of his material in the jour nals of the diocese; but he has extended his in quiry to many other volumes treating of various phases of the history of Tennessee, and he has likewise sought much information by correspond ence. To those who have kindly assisted him in his work he here makes his most grateful acknowledgments. That the book may be kept within the limits set for it from the beginning, he refrains from more specific reference to the authorities consulted or to those who have, by contributing information, rendered assistance. The reader will perceive the propriety, however, of mentioning Mrs. Donna Otey Compton, who has kindly placed at the author's disposal her father's private journals and many papers which have been of inestimable service.
