The story is set between two cities: London and Paris, at the dawn of the French Revolution. The first city symbolizes peace, the second, turmoil, defiance and chaos. The first part is set in the year 1775, in France. Lucia is an 18-year-old girl, who believed her father was dead. However, thanks to the intermediation of the lawyer Jarvis Lorry, he manages to meet him again, and they travel to England. In the second part the trial of Carlos Darnay, accused of being a spy for France, is related. In the midst of a revolutionary climate, a love story is being woven where several of the characters fall in love with Lucia. This link with Carlos Darnay and they have a daughter. But while in England the days follow one another in the daily routine, France becomes more and more shocked. Both cities are intertwined in history, as Darnay decides to march to France, as a person will be sentenced to die because of him. In the third part, Darnay is imprisoned in France and tried, although he is finally released. However, when he was tried again, he was found guilty and sentenced to death. The story ends when Carton, an English lawyer, in love with Lucia, decides to replace the condemned man, taking advantage of his physical resemblance, and die in his place.
