Publisher's Synopsis
This second volume of Armstrong's history is equally well written. Covering 1861 through 1940, Volume II begins with the Civil War, continues with activities during Reconstruction through the end of the century, then notes an optimism upon entering the Twentieth Century. This volume is filled with details about the subsequent growth -- banks, newspapers, education, communication, transportation and industry -- all the happenings and all the people involved. It is indeed a valuable source of information.
