Rivingtons 101mm, Qfirforb, arm (tambrihgc 1871are compiled from sources of undoubtable veracity, an enumeration of which, however, would be of no weight or use to the ordinary English reader, for whom the translation is intended. Mr. Andreeff' s narrative, rich and interesting as it is in material, is extremely disorderly and rambling in the original, abounds in repetitions, and in allusions to persons and things not generally known. I confess that I have taken great liberties with it, curtailed it considerably, and compiled from its parts or chapters one continuous narrative, without however de parting from the letter. For this, and all the imperfections of my translation, I make my humble apology both to him and to Mr. Shou binsky.
