Publisher's Synopsis

The 52nd Illinois Infantry was organized at Geneva, Illinois and mustered in on November 19, 1861. It moved to Benton Barracks, Mo., November 28, thence to St. Joseph, Mo., December 8, 1861. One soldier from the regiment, Sergeant Edward B. Spalding of Company E, was awarded the Medal of Honor for continuing to fight after being wounded at the Battle of Shiloh on April 6, 1862. The regiment mustered out on July 5, 1865 and was discharged at Chicago, Illinois, on July 12, 1865. This edition includes rosters of both the privates and officers.
