Publisher's Synopsis
This 1917 collection of short stories repeats some famous Sherlock adventures. Dr. Watson 'writes' the preface, assuring fans that the intelligent detective has now retired and is living well. A variety of Sherlock's previous exploits are revisited, including 'The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge', hinting slightly at politics. 'The Adventure of the Dying Detective' sees Holmes's almost dying from tropical disease, and offending his friend Watson, while employed to help the police solve a murder. Two stories are unique to this collection - 'The Cardboard Box' and 'His Last Bow'. The former is Sherlock and Watson adventure comprising the grizzly sight of severed ears used to horrify Sherlock's client and revealing a murder. 'His Last Bow' sees the detective in a completely new avatar, catching German spies and travelling to different countries to perfect his masquerades, before the start of World War I.
