The Macmillan Modern Language series provides central coursebook materials in French, German and Spanish, leading to public examination at age 16 plus. "Herein 1" is the first book in the two-volume introductory course for German and is intended for beginners and leads on to "Reisepaass Deutsch 1 and 2", which are the GCSE volumes in the series.;The approach of this textbook is essentially communicative. Each chapter opens with a clear statement of notional and functional objectives and contains a wide range of activities in all four skill areas which involve students in the active use of German. Further sections in each chapter provide background cultural information and clarification of the grammatical structure of German. There are separate revision chapters which occur at regular intervals, featuring self-profiling exercises which can be used to check the student's understanding.
