Part III - The years 1455-1471. After the battle at St Albans, King Henry VI weakly agreed to recognize the Duke of York as his heir. The King's followers - especially the young Lord Clifford - outraged by this cowardice, as they called it, joined the warlike Queen Margaret. The Yorkists were equally discontented with their half-victory. When the Duke of York met Queen Margaret's forces in battle near Wakefield, he was badly outnumbered, and after the fight the Duke was stabbed to death by the Queen.
