Part III - The years 1455-1471. After the battle at St Albans, King Henry VI weakly agreed to recognize the Duke of York as his heir. The King's followers - especially the young Lord Clifford - outraged by this cowardice, as they called it, joined the warlike Queen Margaret. The Yorkists were equally discontented with their half-victory. When the Duke of York met Queen Margaret's forces in battle near Wakefield, he was badly outnumbered, and after the fight the Duke was stabbed to death by the Queen. In spite of this disaster neither Edward, the eldest son of the slaughtered Duke, nor his two surviving brothers gave up the fight...
