A selection of short stories about the adventures of Henrietta a Rhode Island Red Hen the matriarch of the Village Farm Hen house. We follow her and her sisters who are watched over by Big Red the Rooster as they bring up their chicks and shield them from dangers ever lurking behind every hedgerow or in the sky. There is Harry Hawk or Kitty Kite floating silently overhead and then there is Freddie Fox or Frightful Felix the feral feline ready to snatch a chicken dinner on any pretext. Mixed with Henrietta's everyday foraging in the search for titbits we have a mixture of charm, humour and adventure with a few moral anecdotes as life unfolds around the animals of Village Farm.
