Heather was introduced in the author’s second novel. She had been dumped partially clothed by her abusive father in an alley in San Antonio. She was discovered by a gang whose leader phoned the Rev. James Oliver Young. The Presbyterian minister and his wife, Diane, drove into the city to meet with the gang. They took her to Northside Hospital.
She leaves the hospital with Jim and Diane. Her stay is extended. Her immediate acceptance by two powerful siblings, Cynthia Young and Peter Young, both naval officers, help her internalize an identity as a Young long before her adoption is official.
Her sense of self worth and self esteem develop until she emerges as a dynamic young woman. After training at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, and additional training at Armed Forces Health Science Center she becomes a navy nurse. Her story is incredible.
