Publisher's Synopsis
You can take a small action and have a BIG IMPACT. This book highlights how working with small actions students are able to feel empowered in order to have an impact on their community. This project is inspired by the ongoing work towards reconciliation with Canada's First Nations and the power of kindness. It is through empathy and small acts of kindness that this book came to be. We were inspired to bake 800+ cookies for the Calgary Drop In centre and as we began to try understand the journey of Canada's First Nations Children who experienced Residential Schools, our students' began to ask 'What matters? What really matters?' They asked how they could help? What action could they take? Through their questions and wonderings they created these hearts to represent healing hearts and the boldness it takes to move forward and at times to ask for forgiveness and acknowledge our mistakes. They talked about what really matters and created a piece of writing to go with their heart that captures what matters about humanity. In Grade 4 we came to realize that yes we are different and these differences make us unique and together bring us strength. We came to realize that the many ways in which we judge and divide; don't really matter because in the end we are all human. We all make mistakes and we all want what is best for our families and friends. We hope that in reading this book you extend your family and friends and realize What Really Matters. Thank you, Bridlewood Grade 4 Students and their Teachers
