"In surveying the current climate both within and outside the Church, one is struck with a vision of the collapse of basic moral principle and reasoning. Outside the Church, relativism appears to reign supreme; one only has to view the mainstream media, the decisions of courts around the world, the behavior of governments, and the implosion of basic cultural norms in virtually all nations. Inside the Church, even in long-standing academic institutions, the natural law and the principles upon which moral systems were based appear to have very little influence on the reasoning process and the conclusions reached. Among members of the living Magisterium and within the Church at large, there is a growing consequentialism which appears to be negating the long-standing moral tradition of the Church.
