Jack O'Lantern Legend is one of the creepiest Halloween legends. It comes from the old Celt mythology.
About 2,000 years ago, people weren't very different from how we are today, or it is we who still do and celebrate similar holidays to people in the old times. Celts lived in Ireland and Scotland. They had a different calendar; they would divide the year into two seasons that marked the transitions of summer and winter: Beltaine started on May 1st., and Samhain started on the first of November.
They believed that on this last night of the year, Samhain, ghosts, and spirits would visit them, and this is the way the legend of Jack O'Lantern began.
Jack is also the origin of the carved pumpkins we love so much on Halloween.
