Publisher's Synopsis

Director Bahman Ghobadi celebrates life in this bittersweet comedy about a musician's attempt to perform one last time in Iraqi Kurdistan. Set against the backdrop of Saddam Hussein's fall from power, Mamo (Ismail Ghaffari), a famous local musician with failing health, decides to set out for a concert in Kurdistan, planned to celebrate Saddam's demise. Hiring an old school bus and taking his friend Kako (Allah-Morad Rashtian) along as driver, they head off, picking up Momo's ten musical sons along the way. The decision to bring along female singer Hesho (Hedye Tehrani) proves problematic however, as Iranian women are forbidden to sing in front of men in public, resulting in Hesho having to be hidden on the bus. As the group travels further on its journey, the stunning landscapes fall away to be contrasted with scenes depicting the harsh realities of life under Saddam.
