Whether it's Oxford English, Merriam-Webster, or Urban, no dictionary has nice things to say about "Hag". An ugly old woman. An evil old woman. A spiteful, frightening old woman. A demon. A slut. A girl who hangs around gay men because she's ugly, or old, or spiteful, or frightening. You get the picture. None of it is complimentary, so what happens if this your label? "Hag", a label you earned because friends became brothers. Because brothers became Chosen Family. What happens when you begin to rely on that family way more than you should? This is my story, one of understanding, acceptance, and survival. How I used the safety of a label because of abuse, trauma, and grief. How I learned to love this label, flip it, and make "Hag" my sword, instead of a shield. This is the story of how we survive, thrive, and all the ways we hide when we just can't. How a label can also be a life raft. Many brothers helped me on this journey, some no longer with us. HAG is their story too.
