The story is written so realistically, I could smell the burning powder, feel the wet mud underfoot and hear the whine of the mimie balls ricocheting overhead. Pick up this book and go on a real adventure. Jim Fecht, Iwo Jima Survivor, 3rd Marine Division.
Working as foragers Whitfield and La Salle came to a small farm that raised pigs from the smell of it. La Salle kept an eye on the woman in the farmhouse while as Adam checked things out. Adam peeked through a crack in the cedar fence and seeing no problem vaulted over it. His left foot landed fine but his momentum brought his right foot down on the scrotum of the biggest damn boar he had ever seen. To keep his balance he used his rifle, the butt slammed into the pig's head tearing an ear and bloodying an eye. The look on pigs face as he spun around told Adam an apology was not going to be accepted and snapped off a round from his Spencer and listened to the slug hum as it ricochet off the pigs head, stunning him long enough for Adam to jump he fence again. The boar shook the fuzz out of his head and charged. He was really, really, really mad. The fence was sturdy but a quarter ton of pig at full speed made kindling of it.
